NOLA gift shop Plum extends dashTHIRTYdash benefit until July 11

Portion of Sales in Shop and Online Will Go to Fund Assisting Newspaper Employees and Contractors Set to Lose Jobs

UPDATE, Friday, July 6, 6:25 PM CDT: Plum has extended until Wednesday, July 11 its dashTHIRTYdash benefit, so stock up on New Orleans-themed gifts and baubles for yourself. 20% of sales from 20 New Orleans-themed items will go to the fund, so please patronize Plum in-person or online.

NEW ORLEANS, Saturday, June 30, 2012 – Plum, an Uptown gift shop that sells “cool stuff for stylish living,” will donate 20% of the receipts from the sale of 20 of its New Orleans-themed items July 2-11, ranging from custom jewelry to night lights. Donations will also be made for items purchased through the shop’s website at http://www.plumneworleans.com.

The shop, at 5430 Magazine St. near Octavia, is the latest New Orleans business to support dashTHIRTYdash, the newly created fund to financially assist Times-Picayune employees and contractors slated to lose their jobs or a significant portion of their income Sept. 30 as the newspaper abandons daily publication.

King Cake Bacchus Baby is one of 20 items at Plum gift shop whose sale July 2-7 will benefit dashTHIRTYdash.

Among the 20 items included in the fundraiser are sterling silver or pewter Molly McNamara king cake baby charms and Marie Laveau tomb necklace and earrings, Heather Elizabeth night lights and Laurie Bartholomew cuff bracelets engraved with popular New Orleans sayings, such as “”Laissez les bons temps rouler.”

Plum joins other New Orleans business including all five Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group properties, La Petite Grocery Restaurant and Bar and The Avenue Pub in donating a portion of sales on select dates or of select items to dashTHIRTYdash.

Individuals, companies or organizations wishing to donate to dashTHIRTYdash may send checks payable to the Contemporary Arts Center – with “dash30dash” written in the check’s memo line – to the Contemporary Arts Center, c/o Glenn W. Gruber, Associate Director/CFO, 900 Camp St. New Orleans, LA 70130. Again, contributions are tax-deductible.
